Annie Peaker Background Pottery is a second career for me having spent 15 years in the education system. My last teaching post was Head of Art at a school in Halifax where l taught all age groups upto A level - needless to say 3D studies and pottery in particular formed an important part of the curriculum! Making pots has been my passion for longer than l can remember and in 2002 l made the decision to take it up professionally. The following year l gave up teaching, moved to the Eden Valley, Cumbria with my partner Andy (plus 5 cats) and became a full time potter. l now know what 'lifestyle change' means and am loving every minute of it.! | My work seeks to explore the beauty and movement of the female form and attempts to capture the fluid lines in three dimensions. Travelling and working in Africa during the mid-1980's has inspired my choice of subject matter and provides me with a rich and varied palette of colour, pattern and texture. I'm often asked if the dress patterns and colours l use are from a particular African country or tribe - they're actually created from a melting pot of old photos, the odd book or two and lots and lots of wonderful memories! With five cats cluttering up the studio l have a good excuse to take a break from the African ladies every now and then to work with figures of a more furry variety! |
