Jonathan Chiswell Jones Pottery Jonathan trained at Farnham art school and Appin pottery in scotland. In 1974 he started his pottery in with his assistant kerry Bosworth based in East Sussex and has become well known for his reduction fired lustreware. Reduction fired or clay paste lustre is an ancient technique, the results of which are never certain, but can create stunning iridescent colours like oil on water. Silver and copper salts are mixed with clay and painted onto the surface of the glazed pot. Then in a third firing ,where the kiln is deprived of oxygen, the metal from the oxide transfers into the glaze in a minutely thin layer. Jonathan alone produces the lustreware and each piece is numbered and signed by him. |
