Current Work I have always been interested in the work of Brancusi & Barbara Hepworth and their tendency to submerge detail in simple forms. I am also influenced by tribal art, especially west african art & mask. My current work is an indulgence in my facination with mask,form,surface, self reflection, smoke, tribal, primative, day & night, wakefulness & sleep, life & death, decoration, fear, beauty & Dolls.Technical information I build each piece using slabs of stoneware, earthstone & porcelain, when finished the piece is burnished with pebbles & then bisque fired in an electric kiln. The decoration is achieved by subjecting the finished piece to a variety of smoke firing techniques. The nature of the process provides each piece with a unique personality. |
