Lise Moorcroft unique lustre wares

Born in 1965, Lise is the daughter of Walter Moorcroft and the grand daughter of William Moorcroft. Having completed an Honours Degree in Ceramics at the Central School of Art and Design, Lise set up her own studio in 1987. She shows the same flair for design as her father and grandfather. All her pots are executed by hand using the traditional processes of throwing, tube-lining, under-glaze, glaze and lustre. These stages are built up by using several firings in order to create the desired effect. Lise now has two assistants at her studio assisting with throwing. Each piece is an individual and unique piece of art, with the design, composition and tubelining, solely executed by Lise herself.Moorcroft is one of the most important names in the History of British Art and Studio Pottery. William Moorcroft was born in 1872, and his work spanned the Arts and Crafts and Art Noveau Movements, at the turn of the century. He had been inspired by the design work of William Morns of the late Victorian and early Edwardian era.In 1913, William Moorcroft set up his own pottery, making a great name for Moorcroft Ceramics and gaining the Royal Warrant in 1928 from Queen Mary. After his death in 1945, his son Walter took over the business and continued with the honour of having the Royal Warrant. Walter was a very gifted artist in his own right, he produced many famous designs and was Managing Director of the company until 1984, when the company was restructured.Lise B Moorcroft is now the only member of the family producing ceramics.Moorcroft ceramics are collected the world over and Lise is an exciting and talented artist, continuing into the 3rd generation of this truly great artistic family.~~~4219~4255~~
